Abstrait: The Fiat architectural heritage, whose construction in the twentieth century was the contribution of Italian engineers and architects, is very extensive and not yet completely examined. This essay investigates, through largely unpublished archive documents, this theme that is representative of an important part of the Italian industrial architecture heritage. Nervi and Bartoli designed and built the structure of the complex known as the first expansion of the Officine Principali Mirafiori (1954). The roof, organized on a series of on site prefabricated reinforced concrete trusses, was the most interesting part of the new factory, while the organization of the construction yard was the main design and construction theme of the building process. The engineer organized a prefabrication construction yard inside the traditional building site, correlating times and tools of the construction on site with both the rhythms and techniques of prefabricated production.
