Abstrait: The present paper gives an overview of cable roof structures realized in former Czechoslovakia during the second half of the twentieth century. After his visit of Brussels World's Fair EXPO 58, structural engineer Jozef Poštulka returned home so inspired by large-span pavilions of France and USA, that he immediately put all his efforts into design of cable structures. After initial success, engineers around Poštulka were given the opportunity to design and supervise construction of more than 100 cable roofs for buildings, where unobstructed inner space was a prime demand. The aim of this article is to introduce particular load-bearing systems and compare them with regard to their structural behavior. Furthermore, representatives of each category are analyzed and described in detail. Besides creating a classification, the authors examine and document the current condition of the structures as most of them are still in use.
