Abstrait:

The new Neckar Bridge Mannheim, which has a length of 410 m, was finished in 2005. This bridge substitutes the old Neckar Bridge Mannheim, which was constructed between 1934 and 1935. With a length of about 400 m, it served as a crossing point for the Neckar Channel, for the Neckar River and for its riversides, just as the new one does now. The first half of the new construction right next to the old bridge on the east side was the first part of the project to be completed. During the time of its construction, traffic still flowed over the old bridge (Fig. 1). The next step of the project was diverting all traffic to the new superstructure. At this time the requirements for the demolition of the old bridge were met in order to erect the second half of the new bridge in its place. The construction of the new Neckar Bridge Mannheim is part of the extension of the A6 expressway between Viernheim and Mannheim. After completion of this section of the construction, there will be three driving lanes and one emergency lane on each side of the expressway.
