Abstrait:

The George Washington Bridge is a 1,450 m long steel suspension bridge that spans the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey. During the 1980s and early 1990s, cyclical structural inspections revealed an increase in the number of deteriorated cable strand wires. To ensure structural integrity and maintain the bridge's good condition, the Port Authority decided to investigate the exact extent of deterioration of the strands by performing an in-depth inspection of all of them. For the first time since the bridge went into service, each cable strand was wedged open and inspected hands-on.
